Downsides

Downsides of gastric bypasses

Gastric bypasses change the anatomy of your digestive system by limiting the person as to how much food they can intake, much like if you eat to much you will be sick instead the stomach area is made smaller and forces you to eat less. The gastric bypass with the correct behavioural change can see vast improvements in a persons weight and is the choice of Weight Loss surgery in the USA because it holds less risks than other weight loss surgeries available.

what are the downsides of having a gastric bypass as we already know Gastric bypass can be an effective tool for reducing a persons weight and lowering health risks associated with obesity. It is generally recommended for people who’s Body Mass Index is above 35 and don’t respond to diets & exercise. However this surgery comes with some problems around 10-20% of recipients have to go back in for surgery to correct problems with initial surgery which can lead to longer recovery times & increased costs.

Gallstones:
Gallstones are caused by the rapid weight loss after the surgery, if Gallstones are already present when the surgery is performed the surgeons will remove the Gallbladder to prevent any further complications

Chronic Vomiting:
This occurs because the connection between the stomach and intestines narrow due to scar tissue forming, this is an outpatient surgery which has a 90% success rate and is a rather easy operation to perform.

Nutritional Deficiencies
Anemia, Osteoporosis & metabolic bone disorders are a common occurrence after gastric bypass surgery these are treated with dietary supplements and help from a dietitian

No Pregnancy:
If you are female and have to get a gastric bypass surgery, Pregnancy is out of the question for at least two years as it can prevent serious post surgical problems.

Excess skin:
This can cause some confidence problems due to the fact that the patients skin was severely stretched while being over weight and by rapidly loosing weight you will not loss any of your skin mass, this can be fixed with grafts and over time.
